Vibrant and Vivacious – Project Quilting

I really hope all of you are safe, and social distancing as much as possible. It has been a long time since I posted on my blog. After two back-to-back blog hop in February, and then QuiltCon, and then the work-from-home routine, I don’t have much to show. You’d think working from home should give me more time to quilt, but it has been the opposite. There is no clear demarcation between work and home, and I end up working longer hours, and not taking enough breaks. Also, there are more meals to cook and more dishes to do when everyone is home all day.

I was able to make this little mini quilting for the last episode of Project Quilting season 11. What is Project Quilting? It is a quilting challenge hosted by Kim Lapacek of Persimon Dreams, inspired by the reality TV show Project Runaway. She puts out a challenge topic/theme.prompt and we have one week to design and make the quilt, and share it on social media. The challenge for 11.6 was vibrant and vivacious, to ward off the gloominess of social distancing and all the meetups that were canceled as a result.

I had this random curves and lines design in my head for a long time. I used some faux silk I had and made some bias strips. See my design tools – dinner plate, side plate, oval tray, pizza baking sheet! I used a heat-erasable pen to draw some shapes.

The bias strips are backed with fusible tape. All I had to do was remove the backing and iron them in place. I quilted straight lines with a walking foot. I used Aurifil 28 wt thread in pink – it makes the lines look a bit chunky and well-defined.

I shared this in Instagram a couple of weeks ago. This is a sewpowerful purse made for Project Quilting 11.5. The prompt was give it away. This will go to Sew Powerful – an organization that supports women and girls in Zambia.

This is my Project Quilting 11.4 entry. The prompt is Birds in the Air and I call this quilt Chart Your Own Flight Path

This of course was my first Project Quilting entry. It has its own blog post!

Please come back on Friday. I will be hosting TGIFF and this quilt on my design wall will be complete. It was supposed to be a simple design. I enjoyed playing with color and movement to make a very different quilt. Come back on Friday to see how this finished!

I’ve enjoyed seeing each of your quilts for Project Quilting. I didn’t get to make any for those prompts, since I was traveling, so a bit bummed to have missed out on the fun. That quilt on your design wall looks fantastic!

Project Quilting is a favorite of mine! I’ve followed for a few years, but only made 2 projects this year. I really like your curved bias binding and how you applied it. Love the colors and the striking shapes and lines against the light background! So much fun! Stay healthy and safe!

Hi Vasudha! Your latest finish is just perfect for PQ. It is vibrant and vivacious. I know what you mean about there not being a clear demarcation between work and home now. I find I’m working more and sewing way less. Of course, I don’t really have an interest in sewing either, so that doesn’t help. Thank you for sharing a recap of your PQ items – they are fun to see again. Stay healthy and safe, my friend. ~smile~ Roseanne
