My pattern Curve Illusions is published in the Make Modern Magazine issue 31 today! This is my first ever pattern published in a magazine and excited does not even begin to describe how I feel! The issue hit the stands (or mailboxes) this morning (in Australia) and I haven’t had a chance till now (late night in Texas) to blog about it.
Make Modern Magazine is a digital magazine with some really cool modern patterns for quilts, pillows, minis, etc. I’ve had a subscription since June 2018 and this is the first time I approached them with a pattern submission. If you go to www.makemodern.com.au/issue31 to purchase a copy, and use the code “31for6” you can get a copy of Issue 31 for just AU$6 until Sunday 10 November.
As the name suggests, this quilt has no curved piecing. It is just an illusion using a combination of regular piecing and one foundation paper-piecing element.
We went for a short two day visit to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in September to meet friends, and the pictures were shot on location in and around a seaside mansion there.
I quilted several chains of swirls going up and down the quilt and connected the swirls with straight lines. This has become by preferred strategy these days – combining traditional elements like swirls and feathers with modern looking straight lines or wavy lines.
Fabric: Generously was provided by Island Batik – Kaleidoscope collection from spring 2019 and available in stores now.
Batting: Hobbs 80/20 batting in black
Thread for quilting: Aurifil 50 wt cotton – 2745 (midnight)
Congratulations on being published! I love this quilt!
Congratulations! It is beautiful. I love it.
Hi Vasudha! Big congrats to you on your first publication. I am certain there will be plenty more in your future. It’s really a beautiful finish, and the illusion looks real to me. Like little flags waving in the breeze. Your colors are so deep and rich as well. I’m just so excited for you! {{Hugs}} . ~smile~ Roseanne
Colors and design are striking, simple and modern. Again, your quilting adds so much to the piece. Excellent work as usual!
I admired your beautiful quilt yesterday reading Make Modern, and I’m delight to see it here! I love it!
Congratulations! This is such a great honor and it’s a beautiful quilt. Well done you designer!
Hi Vasudha, Congratulations on publishing your first pattern. Make Modern Magazine is great, isn’t it. That`s where I published my first pattern also. It really was a huge thrill – and so much work! I love the pattern and your quilting. I really hope that you will link up to Free Motion Mavericks this week. I downloaded the issue yesterday so I guess I had better go look!
Many congrats! I love patterns that look curved, but aren’t. So much fun! Your pattern is lovely!
Congrats, how special. It is beautiful.
Congratulations on getting your amazing quilt published. Thank you for including the discount code. I immediately raced over to the Make Modern website to download a copy. I briefly looked at the instructions and was totally blown away by how you worked out the piecing. It is really a genius idea. I won’t be able to start my version until January, but I am already excited about trying it. I’m sure it won’t be long until we’ll be seeing more of your quilts featured in quilting magazines,
It is absolutely gorgeous, congrats!
Your quilts, as I’ve said many times, are so clever, and this is yet another. So happy you are published, my friend! I knew it way back when I read that first post. 🙂 Love how you quilted this too!
