Welcome to my stop on the It’s a Guy Thing blog hop organized by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt. My quilt is called Mostly Grey and this will be a graduation gift for my son, who graduated from college more than three years ago ๐
When I signed up for this blog hop it seemed like I had plenty of time to finish this. At that time, I had a vague idea of what I wanted to make and I had made a few test blocks. With multiple weeks of travel and other projects, especially the un-planned projects that sneak up and take up all your time, I was barely able to finish the top this evening and rushed out to take a few pictures before writing this post.
This quilt is based on a block design called Cornered by Jamie Siel (@sewbrainy), published as a block study for the MQG. I modified some of the blocks, added some scrappy piecing and played with the layout. The quilt is big – it finishes at 64″ x 90″.
I apologize for the really bad photograph. The quilt top needs another round of pressing, the lighting was all wrong and my phone camera adds on some extra contrast that makes this look even worse. I will try to get a better picture soon.

Lovely quilt! The colors are great and the pattern and colors are perfect for any guy. Thank you for sharing.
So it always seems the weather doesn’t want to cooperate for photo shoots when I take photos. It’s okay, your share is still very nice! The design is very masculine. Love it!
It’s lovely.Congrats to your son.
Great quilt, congratulations to your son!
What a neat quilt, are you staying minimalist with the quilting or have you decided yet? I bet it would look really nice with just some straight lines across it, and I know I see that a lot in the modern quilts. Hope things even out for you soon, you sound like a busy person!
Very modern. I really like it!
Well done on getting as far as you did within the timeframe. A lovely gift for you son.
I think this is a great quilt and I’m sure your son will love it.
Definitely a guy quilt. The pattern was a perfect choice for all that gray with those splashes of color.
This will be an amazing quilt. I know your quilting will be over the top. It’s a great quilt for a guy!
This was a perfect choice for this blog hop and will be a fabulous finish soon! I like that it is for your son and a few years late because it is a rendition of what all of us do at one time or another!
What a fabulous quilt! Your son will love it, I’m sure. Thank you for sharing.
What a good idea for a guy quilt!
Love the gray and the boxes, too. Perfect for your young man.
Great design – well done!
What a perfect quilt to celebrate your sonโs graduation. I love the modifications you did to make it your own!
Wonderful quilt and a perfect adaptation of that quilt and certainly fit for a young man. He will be happy whenever he receives it.
I always find it hard to quilt for guys, but this project hits the mark perfectly!
