My (late) Throwback Thursday project is this Tangerine cool aid quilt from years past. I had collected several fat quarters of turquoise and orange fabric for a few years. My husband had picked up a few on a business trip to Ohio (first quilty gift).
I started piecing this in 2012 when Jeni from In Color Order had a HST BOM. I made most of the blocks at that time. About a year later, I made a few more and came up with a layout with lots of negative space. I wanted to practice some nice negative space quilting but that never happened. In 2016, I sent it out to a long-arm quilter.
I gifted this to my great-aunt, Pushpa, for her 80th birthday. She is the consummate artist in our family – very creative and resourceful in making arts and crafts with whatever she can find. I know she treasures and uses this quilt everyday. This was quilted with an edge to edge design by Geeta Mehta of Fabulous Quilting.
My one monthly goal for August is to quilt and finish this black & white & red quilt top. The pattern is split personality from the book Modern Quilt Perspectives: 12 Patterns for Meaningful Quilts by Thomas Knauer. This is also a gift for someone. More about the quilt with my finish post. This was another completely “unplanned” projects. I was looking through my quilt books for a quick project/idea and this took hold of me. It was not quick 🙂
Finally, here are my fabric choices for the Modern Plus QAL by Cheryl and Paige. Green outer background, light grey inner background, the mottled hot pink for the large plus and bits of other pinks for everything else. I may add a splash of turquoise or orange if I feel it need some variety. All fabric from my stash.

Good Morning! You monthly goal looks very doable. I’m sorry that pattern wasn’t as quick as you’d hoped it would be, but it sure looks great! I look forward to seeing it complete and hearing about how the recipient loves it! Happy Monday! ~smile~ Roseanne
Your quilt is wonderful. Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck with your project.
Great quilts. Good luck with your goal!
Both those quilts are pretty cool. Looking forward to see how you quilt the black one.
Beautiful quilt and nice that it’s staying in the family
Your great aunt’s quilt is wonderful, Vasudha! I love how you put it together and the checkerboard borders in opposite corners. Thanks for linking it up with TBT! Can’t wait to see what you do with the split personality one… I’m hoping to join in with Cheryl and Paige but not sure it’ll fit!
Tangerine Cool Aid and your Black, White and Red quilts are beautiful. Good luck with your OMG for August.
Your black, white, and red quilt top is awesome, I love the extra floating black on the black background on the right. Your plus sign sampler fabrics look great too!
Tangerine Cool Aid is such a beautiful and meaningful quilt for so many reasons. Your husband picked up the FQs for you. The dearest aunt who is an embodiment of love. The cool colors – blue and turquoise with a dash of spicy orange to create brightness and I love the partial borders – 4-patch used creatively. Yes, I know I should save some breath for the red, white and blue quilt top, but I will wait till you finish it. Wish you all the best in your goals!!!
