Two Beating Hearts – for Project Quilting 11.3

Two beating hearts is my entry for Project Quilting 11.3. The challenge prompt is “Put a heart on it”.

What is Project Quilting? It is a quilting challenge hosted by Kim Lapacek of Persimon Dreams, inspired by the reality TV show Project Runaway. She puts out a challenge topic/theme.prompt and we have one week to design and make the quilt, and share it on social media.

I used this lovely ombre fabric from E. E. Schneck Company. This was leftover from Divergent (that is currently in Austin getting ready for QuiltCon).

I cut 3/4″ strips on the bias and fed it through a 3/8″ bias tape maker along with a 1/4″ steam-a-seam lite fusible tape and a very hot iron. This is like magic!

The background is Moda Grunge ivory. I just quilted closely spaced straight lines. Check out the backing fabric. It’s looks like a colorful ECG. I fused the bias tape fabric on top to make heart beats and two interlocking hearts. This was totally freehand. I didn’t want to bother with drawing something and trying to remove the marks.

This is so creative! I can picture this hanging in a bedroom over a bed. You found the perfect backing fabric, too! Well done!

Hi Vasudha! I cannot express myself enough to say how much I love this piece. We’ve just been studying EKG results and how to read the tape with my niece who is studying to be a nurse. She would just ADORE this . . . just as a fun reminder that the doctor gets the final say but the nurse, as usual, has to do all the work before his say. It is just amazing! I hope you are submitting it somewhere like for QuiltCon or a similar event. It would surely win AND also be a fan favorite, at least in my book. ~smile~ Roseanne
