Wave Dancer – April Island Batik Project

The April Island Batik challenge is Creative Birders and Binding. I made this wall quilt for my dining room. I call it Wave Dancer. It depicts one period of a sine wave. I wanted something modern to go with the other quilt in the room.

The fabric for this project was provided by Island Batik, the batting by Hobb’s batting and thread was provided by Auriful threads as part of the Island Batik Ambassador program.

I used this 2.5″ strip bundle called Sundance. Sundance was released in winter 2019 and should be available in stores now. It is a warm, rich mix of gold and navy blue.

Of the 20 pairs of strips in the packet, I picked nine pairs.

I have several pictures of the process. I will post a tutorial in the next week or so. I need to organize the pictures and write instructions. I need the quiet of a weekend to do that.
I used a black Hobb’s batting leftover from a previous project. I can’t remember if it was cotton or a cotton/poly blend.

I used Aurifil 50wt thread to piece and quilt this project. For quilting, I used Aurifil 2214 that came as part of a three spool set called Tuscany.

Here she is on the wall in my dining room. During these days of work/study from home, this is where the boys come to wind down and challenge each other for a game of chess. Do you spy the Citrus Plus – the Plus Playtime pattern by Sandra Walker? I made this during a quilt along she hosted in 2018. I hope to join her current QAL (2020).

Starting next week, the Island Batik ambassadors will be showcasing the Winter 2019 fabrics. The challenge is The Ultimate Home Decor. Checkout the Island Batik blog next week for all the links. My bundle is called Season’s Splendor. There may be a Christmas-themed project!

I love this! It is perfect in your dining room and yes, the Plus Playtime – I loved that quilt and it is fun to see yours poking out. Looking forward to the hop….

Hi Vasudha! I saw a peek of this on IG but it looks even better here with all the details. It really compliments your dinning room so nicely. That looks like Sandra’s Plus sew-along quilt on the other wall. I wonder what the dimensions are for this piece? It looks like it could easily be a nifty table runner, hosting the chess set. ~smile~ Roseanne
