Sandra Walker of mmmquilts hosts a quilt-along every year. This year’s quilt is Centred (note the spelling 🙂 ). As soon as I saw her quilt, I thought this would look so cool with the lights and dark swapped out in some of the blocks. I tried out a few layouts in the coloring page she provided and came up with this. The blocks and block placement are exactly what she has in her pattern but I just swapped the white and grey (light and dark) in adjacent blocks
My Island Batik ambassador box this year had half-yard cuts of four different solids in addition to the usual white, grey and black solids. I used yellow and red along with white and grey for this project. Take a look at the Island Batik solids collection and see if your local quilt shop can order them for you. The June challenge for IBA is any theme. This is my third project this month using all Island Batik fabric. Checkout my other two: Black Lives Matter and Purple Princess.
The fabric and thread I used for this project were provided by Island Batik and Aurifil thread respectively, as part of the Island Batik ambassador program.
I quilted along each seam to emphasize the nested squares, left the yellow and red areas un-quilted, quilted different directional designs in the white and grey areas, and quilted a diamond or partial diamond to emphasize the points where the blocks converge.
I used an Aurifil 50 weight in Sprearmint for the top and a white for the bobbin.
It needs a binding. As I started to sew, my machine started skipping stitches and other tension problems. This has been happening for a while probably because it is overdue for servicing. I was also thinking of getting a new machine since my Hasquarvna Quilt Designer is over 15 years old. Let me know if you have a recommendation for a nice sewing machine with some advanced features like automatic presser foot lift, some decorative stitches and a good 1/4″ and walking foot. I expect to use it mainly for quilt tops and items like bags and pillows.
Lovely colors! I love your version, very pretty!
The colors look great together and the way you alternated them creates a real sense of movement. Nice design. As usual, your quilting really adds another element of interesting texture and detail.
Hi Vasudha! Lovely, lovely, lovely interpretation of Sandra’s Centred pattern. I just LOVE the fabrics you used and the way your quilting always highlights and brings out the best in the piece. Nice job. ~smile~ Roseanne
I love how you changed up the colour layout. It looks great. I can’t believe this is your third IB project for the month. Well done!!
Lovely quilt and I love the quilting, its perfect for the design. Thank you for linking up to Put your foot down.
Amaaing! 3 quilts in a month so far….my goodness. I love what you did with this pattern and the quilting is fab. Its funny how a few changes really make a huge difference.
I love this version of Centred. (And thanks for pointing out that I’ve been spelling it wrong this whole time!) The yellow and red are such great contrasts to the neutrals and I love that you left them unquilted. Your quilting is stunning!
Changing out the color scheme as you did really changed the whole look of the design. Love the color combo you selected. This is so cool!!
Love those colors and the quilting is fantastic.
Oh WOW!! What a difference the coloring makes!!
Beautiful quilt. Love your sneak peek too! Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
I apologize because I must’ve commented on your Instagram post, and not here. I love what you did with my pattern, and the quilting just is divine. I hope you’ve got your machine in order now. Thank you so much for quilting along, for this great version, and I will be emailing you in a moment to let you know of your prize winnings!
Hi Vasudha, I managed to miss this one! It’s great to see Sandra’s quilt made by so many great quilters. It really had great potential and you did such a wonderful job quilting it. Have you found your new machine yet? Thanks for linking it up to Free Motion Maverick’s 300th linking party. Take care.
