Island Batik Whispering Christmas

Welcome to my July Island Batik ambassador challenge. The theme for this month is Christmas in July. Each ambassador was sent a AccuQuilt GO! me starter set. It came with a small portable fabric cutter, two 3″ finished dies and instructions to use them. The challenge was to make a project using just the two dies and gift the project and the GO! me to another quilter in the community.

My latest box from Island Batik had a lovely bundle of fat quarters from Whispering Feathers – a winter 2019 collection. I used the 3″ die and cut up several half-square triangles and quarter square triangle. I used my design wall to layout the pieces to make an abstract impressionist style quilt. It is 15″ X 48″ and can be used as a table runner or as a wall quilt.

I quilted a chain of swirl feathers in the center and straight lines on either side going up to the edge of the quilt.

I gifted this to Tina Johnson –@tenderlystitched. Tina was the VP of membership at the @houstonmqg when I joined the guild in 2018. She is also active with the quilt ministry at her church. When I called her she was so excited. She had been thinking of getting a fabric cutter. We met outdoors – in my backyard – with masks on one evening. Purple is Tina’s favorite color. I made sure there was enough purple in her quilt 🙂

Lovely! Whispering Feathers is such a beautiful line. I hope Tina loves her cutter; she sounds like a great recipient!

Hi Vasudha! What a great post. How fun that you could give the Go! die cutter as well as your beautiful runner to your friend. A very useful gift for a quilter and a runner that she’ll enjoy for years and think of you. Happy Friday! ~smile~ Roseanne

Fantastic transition of colors. It almost like you hand-picked the colors in the bundle. I certainly appreciate the detailed picture of your quilting. Nicely done.
