Diamond Strands appears in the Winter 2021 issue of Quilter’s World. This issue has several red and white quilts as well as several winter-themes projects.
The inspiration for this quilt came from a series of stained glass windows designed by Frank lloyd Wright for the Robbie House in Chicago. I took this picture in 2018 and this has been on my inspiration board since then.
I varied the sizes of the diamonds and the color/value to add movement and interest to the design. Similar to my Buzzing Geese quilt. Full sized templates are included with the pattern but you can also use a speciality ruler that helps you make diamonds. I used four different red Moda Grunge fabrics which have a subtle change from dark to light.
I quilted lines from the largest to the smallest diamond and beyond so that all the lines meet at a point. Then, I quited my favorite motifs – swirls, feathers and wavy lines all over. I used a red and white striped binding.
This magazine is availble as a digital single issue or subscription on the Quilter’s World website. It is also available as a print magazine in quilt shops and wherever magazines are sold.
That’s another lovely quilt in a great magazine! Congratulations, Vashuda.
Very nice. Thanks for sharing a picture of your inspiration. Elegant treatment of a simple design and color scheme.
This is beautiful! I really love that you took inspiration from the stained glass window. I often see things IRL that make me think about quilting (or maybe I am always thinking about quilting?) and I should start documenting those little inspirations in some way!
Oh wow – that is just gorgeous!!!
