Hopscotch Tiles Finished (almost)

Happy 4th of July to everyone in the United States. Hopscotch tiles is finally done. This was an UFO from more than two years. I watched this YouTube video by Jenny Doan of Missouri Star called Summer in the Park and immediately started making one. I cut up some strips of assorted greens, an orange/yellow floral print and a whole lot of Kona white. I designed the layout and made the squares, but I don’t know why it never got finished. This was probably in 2016 or 2017.

Life as a UFO – This lived in a shoe box for over 2 years. Found the missing square behind the sewing table. The bright greens almost didn’t make the cut but I decided to include them eventually. Finished is better than perfect!

I finished the top and the backing in April, and I’m so happy I was able to finish quilting last week. I went with a simple quilting plan – outline the green squares in and out, wishbones in the white square inside the green, and some loops in the innermost green squares. Everywhere else, I used a all-over daisy meander – quick and easy and looks good.

The bright greens – a distraction or an element of interest?

This quilt still needs a binding – I have a dark green cut and ready to go. I have almost decided who gets this quilt but I can’t say it until after it is gifted 🙂

Oops! Some of those white strips are a different white. Only noticed after the top was all done!

Yay for finishing a UFO! I like the bright greens in there; it adds a bit of personality. I have a few of those almost but never finished block sets too! I wonder where I’ve hid them? Haha.

Hi Vasudha! What a wonderful almost finish to share today. I love those bright pops of green throughout the quilt top! They’re a surprise and a delight. I never would have noticed the difference in the white strips – I’d say it was planned that way. I sure am glad you found that one missing block. ~smile~ Roseanne

Hi! I really love your free motion quilting – and I think that the pop of bright green is great! My favourite part are the wishbones between the middle square and the “box” around it. Thanks so much for linking up to Free Motion Mavericks! Your project is highlighted this week 🙂
