Playful Lattice in Make Modern Issue 38

Have you got your Make Modern issue 38 yet? I’m so excited that my pattern, Playful Lattice, appears in this issue. It is packed with some really cool modern quilt, pillows and bag patterns. I was introduced to Make Modern in 2018 when I won a 6 month subscription to the magazine. I have kept my subscription alive since then and enjoyed each and every issue.

Playful Lattice is my second pattern with Make Modern. The first is Curve Illusions. The gold sections in this quilt are paper-pieced. The rest are regular pieced – mostly half-square triangles. I tried foundation paper piecing using freezer paper. I think I will use freezer paper for all my paper-piecing projects unless the blocks are very small and intricate. The pattern in MM includes instructions and a photo tutorial for this.

I used three different Gem Stones fabric from Riley Blake Designs – cherry bomb, sonic green and banana mania. The green and yellow have a pronounced variation in saturation along the width of fabric but the variation is more subtle in cherry. I think this worked very well in my quilt. The green and yellow shades vary from bottom to top but the cherry is all mixed in. The background is Confetti cottons in Riley white and the backing is Shades in turtle.

I quilted a chain of feathers all along the center channel and an all over daisy design everywhere.

The back uses Riley Blake “Shades” in turtle.

Many thanks to Riley Blake Designs for giving me the fabric for this quilt. I highly recommend a subscription in the Make Modern Magazine. I am an affiliate and if you go to their site from my blog and buy a subscription, I get a small commision.

Your Playful Lattice quilt is lovely, Vasudha! Great use of those gradient fabrics, and I love the feather vine quilting, like a vine of greenery growing up your lattice quilt.

Congratulations Vasudha. I am amazed that it is a modern quilt but has such a vintage feel to it. To me, it looks like a bridal quilt – with promise of love (cherry), prosperity (gold) and fertility (green). Well, you certainly know how to bring the best of both worlds together in one place 🙂

I love the Gem Stones fabrics – those ombre colors are fab and you’ve used them to their best. Thanks so much for sharing and linking up. ~smile~ Roseanne

The piecing is lovely and the colors, but that quilted feather up the middle really caught my eye. Great job!
