I am excited to share that the pattern for Hogwarts Crossing is published in the October issue of Curated Quilts. This quilt was inspired by a tile pattern I came across in a restaurant several years ago. Varying the color/value of parts of the “tile” creates a 3D illusion and introducing negative space (by carefully removing some block components) enhances this illusion. The resulting design of interconnecting flights of stairs reminds me of the changing stairs of Hogwarts, the fictional school of Magic in Harry Potter. Hence the name Hogwarts Crossing.
This is the tile pattern I started with. I created it on EQ8 and played around with color and shape. It stayed in a EQ8 project file for years before coming alive.
This issue of Curated Quilts is about the use of Negative Space in art and in quilts. It has some great articles and patterns. I quilted vertical straight lines in the background and lines parallel to the stairs in the blocks.
I am also hosting TGIFF this week. Please link your finishes using the link below!
Love your 3D illusion!!! 🙂
I saw this on Instagram and I have to say it’s even better on my laptop. How I love this quilt, and once again, your oh-so-original designs never fail to mesmerize me. Well done, and very deserving of publication!
Congrats! It’s a neat pattern.
That is amazing! (and brilliant)
Just like the stairs at Hogwart’s! Congratulations on the publication and another fabulous quilt.
