Peaks and Valleys is my most recent finish. At QuiltCon 2020 in Austin, I fell in love with this ruler – The Hurty designed by Latifah Saafir. It is a very clever Half-rectangle ruler that allows you to make 1:2 and 1:6 half rectangle triangle (HRT) blocks. This is different from other HRT rulers in that you make blocks that are slightly larger and then trim them to size. This improves the precision of your block without having to be overly careful about cutting and sewing a perfect 1/4″ seam.
Look at this picture that shows how the quilt top was constructed. I used 2″ x 12″ HRTs and matching strips. Offsetting the blocks gives it the curve illusion.
I stayed with a very simple quilting design. Vertical straight lines on top and parallel curved lines for the bottom.
