“Justice” goes to Houston and QuiltCon

Breaking news from last week: My quilt, Justice Everywhere, was accepted into the Modern Quilt Guild exhibit, at the International Quilt Festival/Houston 2019 and QuiltCon 2020. Needless to say, I’m over the moon. Here’s the description I wrote along with the submission:
“Justice Everywhere” spells out Dr. Martin Luther King’s famous quote “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” using the Braille alphabet. I am forever inspired by this quote. It entreats us to not rest until there is justice everywhere and for everyone. Trapunto, with two layers of wool batting, is used for the pink squares to emphasize the tactile nature of Braille.

My original blog post on Justice is here.

Congratulations, Vasudha. Although the message in your quilt is timeless, I don’t think there has been a more appropriate time to reiterate this message. The whole idea – “oh I am fine”, “it is them, not us”, “does not affect me” is so detrimental to the fabric of our society. Thank you for making such a meaningful quilt and once again I am so proud of you. Honored to call you my friend.

I am so pleased for you! This is a wonderful quilt with a sentiment that is so needed in our world today. I am so ashamed by the injustice we are willing to allow happen around us. Congratulations!

OMG Vashudha!! How cool is this news?? Could this piece BE any more needed at a time of such turmoil in the USA. The message, the story behind the piece, the piece itself with your wonderful piecing and quilting. Big huge {{{hugs}}} of congratulations for you. I am honored to know someone who will have a piece reaching so many people, and you just will never know how many people will be touched and possibly changed by it. Wowee. I have the chills just typing this – I can’t even express myself well enough with simple words. ~smile~ Roseanne
