Purple Vortex – Hello Fall blog hop

Welcome to my stop in the Hello Fall blog hop organized by Carla of Creatin’ in the Sticks. Carla’s blog hops are full of inspiration, good vibes and encouragement. I use Carla’s blog hops as a motivation to finish up my Unfinished projects (UFOs). This project, purple vortex, is from March 2020. It was my Island Batik ambassador project for March. I did not have time to quilt it at that time. Last weekend, I loaded it back on the frame and finished quilting it.

The front is mostly purple but the back has enough orange to qualify as a fall quilt! The strip of purple was made from all the leftover pieces from the front. This is a good way to use up scraps and to save fabric.

I had a set of concentric half-circle longarm quilting rulers that I had not used at all. I thought this will be a good project to try them out. I quilted different sized circles with the smallest ones at the bottom and larger as they go up. I still don’t like ruler quilting. I prefer free-motion most of the time. Circles were harder because for one half of it the ruler is on the other side of the foot/needle and it is hard to control the movement of the needle. Once the circles were done, I used different free-motion designs inside each circle. Outside the circles, I used the channel locks on my frame to quilt parallel lines.

I remembered to sew my new satin label!

The sky is clear after three days of incessant rain from tropical storm Beta. It has cooled down and the air feels clean and cool. It was so nice to be out taking and pictures.

Hi Vasudha! Gorgeous quilt and the quilting really pushes it over the top. You are so skilled at quilting. I would love to just sit and watch your process some time. I know that’s not possible but kudos to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

The quilt is lovely but the quilting truly makes it pop. I get that the circle were pesky but the outcome was so worthwhile.
