Project Quilting and TGIFF

Project Quilting is a series of challenges along the lines of the popular TV series Project Runway. PQ if organized by Kim Lapacek. Season 12 just finished and it was hugely popular with more than 200 entries for most episodes. Each “episode” is a challenge with a theme or prompt. We are given one week to design, make and complete a finished project. In the blog post, I will show my projects for this season. I participated in all but one episode.

I am happy to host Thank Goddness It’s Finished Friday – TGIFF this week. Linky party is at the bottom of this post. Please link a blog post showing your finished projects or works in progress or new ideas you are working on.

12.6: The prompt was ab intra – latin for from within. My entry: Controlled Chaos. My creative process often starts with a structure. I experiment with different optons within that structure – can be on paper, a tool or with fabric. I may break some rules or make new rules, and experiment some more. Going back and forth between chaos and structure keeps me happy and creative!⁣

12.5: Youre crazy – inspired by the late 1800s crazy quilt movement. My entry: I used bits of faux silk inluding apparel, upholstery and drapery fabric. Technique used is a simple stack and whack improv piecing. I used different theads and different quilting motifs for each section.

12.3: virtual vacation. We were in the process of planning a trip to Vancouver island for a cousins wedding when covid hit. We were planning on traveling for a week after the wedding including a number of mountain hikes. I made a mugrug for my son who loves coffee, mountains and the color grey, in no particular order.

12.2: Fuzzy cutting. I made a mug rug using fabric I bought during a trip to Nova Scotia some 8 years ago. I certainly want to visit again. I used Hobbs Thermore batting for a clean flat look. It’s a bit wonky because I was too lazy to change to a walking foot.

12.1: illuminating + ultimate grey – the Pantone colors for 2021. I made a pillow cover using a block from my folded notes quilt pattern. Just straight line quilting and a zippered closure.

What a terrific collection of projects, and I especially like that two are tied to Canada πŸ™‚ My favourite is your Ab Intra, though Illluminated is a close second. Thank you for hosting TGIFF!

What a great lineup of projects. I did the first one, but never remembered to check on the others and often left it too late to organize a project!

Wow! All of your finishes for season 12 are fantastic! I particularly *love* the ab intra and You’re Crazy pieces. Those are both stunning. And you made me realize exactly what makes me tick best: “Going back and forth between chaos and structure keeps me happy and creative!⁣” <~ That is the best way anyone has expressed my ideal state of "being." πŸ™‚
